A White House staffer was reportedly charged with domestic violence for allegedly firing a shot at her boyfriend, a U.S. Capitol Police officer, with his own service weapon.
Barvetta Singletary, a special assistant to the president and House legislative affairs liaison, has been placed on unpaid leave, and her access to the White House complex has been revoked pending further information, a White House spokesman
tells NBC 4 Washington.
According to the affiliate, police alleged Singletary texted her boyfriend to meet at her home in suburban Maryland for sex and afterward, confronted him about another woman he was dating.
The couple then went to the boyfriend's car, where Singletary grabbed his two cellphones and his 40 caliber Glock 23 service weapon, police charge.
They went back inside Singletary's house, but when he refused to give her his phone passwords, she allegedly pulled the gun from its holster, warning, "You taught me how to use this. Don't think I won't use it," the affiliate reports.
Singletary then allegedly fired one round in the direction of her boyfriend; he wasn't hit. He told police he saw Singletary wipe the gun down with a towel afterward, the affiliate reports.
She was arrested at the scene.
