Cafeterias used by White House staff were closed Wednesday and contact tracing is being conducted after an employee tested positive for coronavirus, according to a Trump administration official.
It was not clear if the employee was a cafeteria worker, reports The New York Times, and the White House source did not say what symptoms the worker showed. The cafeterias are in the New Executive Office Building and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, both part of the White House complex and located next to the West Wing.
The White House told employees in an email that there is no need for them to self-quarantine, but they should still monitor themselves for symptoms and stay home if they feel sick.
The news was released hours after President Donald Trump spoke at the White House's daily briefing about the pandemic.
Trump and his administration are regularly tested for coronavirus but it is not clear what protocols cover employees in the executive office buildings.
Earlier this year, Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary, Katie Miller, as well as a military aide who had contact with Trump tested positive for the virus. Also, Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News commentator who now works with the Trump campaign and dates Donald Trump Jr., tested positive, and Pence postponed a trip to Arizona after Secret Service agents traveling with him tested positive.
