Attorneys for a Florida doctor charged with corruption alongside New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez are hopeful he will be released from jail Thursday.
Dr. Salomon Melgen's defense team reached a tentative $18 million bond agreement with prosecutors after a series of hearings Wednesday. They're due back in federal court in West Palm Beach on Thursday afternoon.
Melgen has been held more than 11 weeks since his arrest in a sweeping Medicare fraud case. It is separate from the case he faces with Menendez in New Jersey.
Under the terms the bond order expected to be finalized Thursday, Melgen is to be granted home detention with electronic monitoring until his trial.
The eye surgeon has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
