The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities has eliminated a one-year medical fellowship designed to teach a doctor how to perform abortions and become a "trainer" to others to perform the procedure.
The action came after several pro-life student groups protested a "Reproductive Rights Advocacy Fellowship" advertised by the public research university in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, the college news website Campus Reform reports.
The doctor would have trained at a Planned Parenthood clinic for at least 20 days, learning "abortion and related procedures," including "vacuum aspiration of the uterus," and the counseling of patients.
Jakub Tolar, Dean of the UM Medical School, told Campus Reform's Toni Airaksinen: "We have pulled the position … and are no longer hiring for this role. We will examine the value of this training in the context of our mission along with the values of the community."
