Ukraine Police are investigating the death of a female U.S. embassy employee who was found unconscious near a railroad early Wednesday, reports the Kyiv Post.
The woman had suffered a head injury and was transported to the hospital, where she later died.
“During the examination of the victim’s belongings, an identity card of an employee of the US Embassy in her name was found,” Kyiv Police said in a statement.
“Investigators and representatives of other specialized services are currently conducting priority investigative actions at the hospital and at the scene, identifying witnesses and eyewitnesses, as well as the circumstances under which the woman was injured.”
Police are looking for a 30-40-year-old male suspect believed to be behind the attack.
The U.S. Embassy confirmed the death to BuzzFeed News.
“We are heartbroken to report the death of an American member of the U.S. Embassy Kyiv community. Officials from U.S. Embassy Kyiv are currently working with authorities to determine the circumstances of the death,” it said in a statement.
