Trump Wins Lawsuit Against 'Cybersquatter'

Donald Trump has won a lawsuit against a Brooklyn man who registered four websites using the iconic Trump name,CNN reported.

The man, J. Taikwok Yung, registered four sites — trumpmumbai.com, trumpindia.com, trumpbeijing.com, and trumpbudhabi.com — in 2007 around the time Trump announced plans to develop hotels and condominiums in Mumbai and Bangalore, India.

The rules regulating cyber-squatting — that is "the registration as domain names of well-known trademarks by non-trademark holders who then try to sell the names back to the trademark owners — are set forth in the Anti-Cyber-squatting Consumer Protection Act.

Yung, 34, was fined $32,000 in damages by a federal judge. He could have faced a $100,000 fine for each of the Trump-related domain names.

Trump's lawyer James Weinberger said he hoped the ruling would send a message to anyone "who thinks they can register names that include Trump's trademark and name and use them for commercial purposes," CNN reported.

The name "Trump" is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Organization.

Trump was rebuffed when he offered Young $400 for the names in 2010. The next year Yung filed a complaint seeking to retain the domain names. The case was finally resolved on Friday.
