President Donald Trump said the U.S. has surpassed all other counties in the number of tests for the coronavirus.
His comments came in a Wednesday tweet.
He wrote: “Just reported that the United States has done far more ‘testing’ than any other nation, by far! In fact, over an eight day span, the United States now does more testing than what South Korea (which has been a very successful tester) does over an eight week span. Great job!”
His comments to echoed those of Dr. Deborah Birx, the response coordinator for the White House Task Force. She said at Tuesday’s Virtual Town Hall on Fox News: “In the last eight days, we’ve done more testing than South Korea.
"We did that because we transformed the testing process," Birx said in explaining over 300,000 tests have been done.
Meanwhile, NPR reported South Korea has a population of 51 million people, while the U.S. has 327 million.
At about 300,000 tests in each nation, that means South Korea tested 1-in-170 people, while the U.S. tested 1-in-1,090.
