MIAMI (AP) — A Florida boy who police say was critically injured when he was doused in chemicals by his father is improving in condition.
The head of Florida's Department of Children and Families, Secretary David Wilkins, visited with 10-year-old Victor Barahona on Saturday at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
He says the boy is making progress medically.
Jorge Barahona, the child's father, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the alleged attack. No charges have been filed yet in relation to the death of the boy's twin sister, whose body was found in the backup of a pickup truck. The boy was found convulsing in the front seat and the father nearby on the ground, unresponsive.
Barahona pleaded not guilty Friday. He is being held without bail.
