A 15-year-old Santa Fe High School student in Texas said Friday that he knew the alleged 17-year-old shooter and that "he was really quiet."
"He wore, like, a trench coat almost every day," Mateo Twilley told Erica Hill on CNN.
"I've talked to him once or twice," he added. "I had my advisory class, which is after third period, with him.
"My brother was his friend, I think."
Police identified the shooter as Dimitrios Pagourtzis. He was arrested at the scene — and a possible accomplice was taken into custody for questioning.
Ten people were killed — nine students and a teacher — and 10 others were wounded in the attack early Friday.
Twilley told Hill that fire alarms went off about 7:40 a.m.
"We all went outside," he said. "And then we all went back to the field that's on the side of the school, and then we heard two shots.
"So, the teachers told us to run — so, we ran to the car wash.
"It's pretty terrifying.
"At first, I thought the shots were just like trash cans closing because it kind of was what they sounded like," Twilley continued.
"Everyone started panicking — and I started panicking, too, as we were running.
"Whenever we got to the street, some people told us that it's, like, the real thing."
