Police: Florida Officer Shot Searching for Shooting Suspect

A police officer in St. Petersburg, Florida, shot and killed a suspect after the suspect shot and injured him Sunday evening.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that police said the officer was responding to a call reporting another person shot at about 6:45 p.m. in the Coffee Pot Bayou area of St. Pete. The officer was searching for a suspect when he was shot.

Police said the 18-year-old suspect, Austin Goodner, shot the officer in the leg. According to investigators, the officer returned fire, killing Goodner. Police said the officer was taken to a St. Petersburg hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

The distance between each scene is about three miles.
