Police officers who acted "inappropriately" when they arrested and tased professional basketball player Sterling Brown were disciplined Wednesday, CNN reports.
"The department conducted an investigation into the incident which revealed members acted inappropriately and those members were recently disciplined," Milwaukee Police Chief Alonso Morales said. "I am sorry this incident escalated to this level."
Brown, who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA, was arrested Jan. 26 after he parked in a disabled space outside of a Walgreens. Police originally said he became confrontational after being issued a parking violation, but a 30-minute body cam video released Wednesday shows Sterling not physically resisting the arrest.
The video, published on YouTube, shows police officers pulling Brown to the ground, with one shouting, "taser, taser, taser."
Brown was jailed briefly, but never charged with a crime.
Brown on Wednesday said he was taking legal action against the Milwaukee Police Department.
"What should have been a simple parking ticket turned into an attempt at police intimidation, followed by the unlawful use of physical force, including being handcuffed and tased, and then unlawfully booked," Brown said in a statement.
"Black men shouldn't have to have their guard up and instantly be on the defensive when seeing a police officer, but it's our reality and a real problem. I will take legal action against the Milwaukee Police Department to continue forcing change in our community."
