After accusations surfaced Tuesday that "7th Heaven" star Stephen Collins had molested several girls, the LAPD responded to reports of a single gunshot at a home owned by the actor. But the actor was not home at the time and the LAPD confirmed to ABC News that he was not at the residence.

A neighbor, Donna D'Errico, tweeted that the actor shot himself as the LAPD arrived in force at his Tarzana home.

"That guy from '7th Heaven' lives right around the corner from me & just shot himself a few minutes ago," she wrote.

She later deleted the tweet and apologized, saying that a neighbor had given her a false report.

On Tuesday, Collins was fired from "Ted 2" after reports surfaced that the NYPD was investigating the actor on suspicion of child molestation. He also resigned from the SAG-AFTRA board on Tuesday.

Collins, who recently appeared in NBC's "Revolution," was allegedly caught on tape admitting to an incident in which he exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl.

"There is a formal complaint on file and the incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Special Victims Squad," a law enforcement official told Fox411. The L.A. Times reported that the LAPD is also reviewing a 2012 investigation involving the actor, although the case has not been re-opened.
