A spring breaker who drew condemnation after telling a news crew "If I get corona, I get corona," has apologized and told others to follow his advice.
Brady Sluder, a Soundcloud rapper from Milford, Ohio, was interviewed by CBS News on a beach in Miami as crowds covered beaches despite orders to maintain social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
But Sluder, like many younger people, maintained an attitude that, since the virus was fatal mainly to older people and those with underlying health issues, they had nothing to worry about. Public health officials still warn that even those, like young healthy people, can contract the virus, show now symptoms, and pass them on to those who can suffer serious symptoms or even die.
"If I get corona, I get corona," Sluder can be seen saying in the CBS video. "At the end of the day, I'm not going to let it stop me from partying. We've been waiting for Miami spring break for a while.
"We're just out here having a good time. Whatever happens, happens."
But in a penitent Instagram post, Sluder now says, "I wasn't aware of the severity of my actions and comments," and adds, "Like many others, I have elderly people who I adore more than anything in the world and other family members who are at risk, and I understand how concerning this disease is for us all."
