Rep. Rodgers: Democrats Using Social Issues to ‘Scare Women’

By    |   Thursday, 22 March 2012 03:11 PM EDT

Democrats are playing up the issues of contraception and abortion to “scare women” away from the Republican Party, says Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash.

“The reality is, the Republicans won the women’s vote in 2010, and the Democrats know they have to win the women’s vote, and these are scare tactics to scare women,” she said on MSNBC’s "Hardball with Chris Matthews," The Hill reports.

The ridiculousness of the Democratic antics shone through clearly this week in Democratic complaints about the House budget authored by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., Rodgers said, according to The Hill. “The House released its budget yesterday, and the criticism that came immediately from the Democratic women in the House was that they said it was ‘anti-woman.’ You know, that’s when I say this is a distraction from the real issues.”

Left-wing social activists are pushing their agenda in state legislatures and Congress, Rodgers said. But the big issue is this: “When it comes to women now, two out of three businesses are being started by women,” she said.

“They understand first-hand the challenges they face in trying to start a business, grow a business, the regulatory nightmare because of the federal government that makes it harder and harder, the tax burden.”
