Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed President Donald Trump for suggesting that a 75-year-old Buffalo protester, who was shoved to the ground by police, was part of a “set up.”
The Democrat lawmaker from New York tweeted Tuesday that the president “should go back to hiding in the bunker instead of tweeting baseless conspiracies about peaceful protesters and further dividing America.”
Schumer was responding to a tweet Trump sent out earlier Tuesday that suggested Martin Gugino “could be an ANTIFA provocateur" and questioned if his fall was a set up.
Schumer wished Gugino a “speedy recovery” and then posed a question, “What are Senate Republicans going to do about this?”
A video captured two Buffalo police officers shoving the man to the ground as he approached them during a protest last week. He fell backward and hit his head. He remains hospitalized for his injuries. Both cops involved in the incident were charged with assault. They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Gugino was protesting the death of George Floyd, a black man, who was killed by a white former police officer in Minneapolis.
