The White House has chosen Army Reserve Major Gen. Ricky Waddell as deputy national security adviser, according to Politico.
He will be second in command to H.R. McMaster, the national security adviser. Waddell's previous job was commander for the 76th Operational Response Command infantry, according to Politico's report.
Waddell is replacing K.T. McFarland in the job. President Donald Trump did not support McMaster's attempt to replace her and earlier in May, White House chief of staff Reince Priebus did not allow McMaster to bring Waddell on board, according to a Tuesday Politico report.
McFarland will stay to help Waddell get acclimated to the new job, Politico reported.
She is likely to be nominated as the next U.S. ambassador to Singapore, according to an April report in Bloomberg.
