Envelope With White Powder Sent to Reagan Library

Monday, 29 September 2014 07:13 PM EDT

Hazardous material and fire crews are at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif., after a worker opened an envelope containing a white powder, but a spokeswoman says there is no threat to the public.

Library spokeswoman Melissa Giller said Monday that authorities checked the worker who opened the envelope and she is fine. Two others who reacted to the discovery of the white powder also were cleared.

An area where administrative staffers work has been cordoned off, but the museum, cafe and other facilities remained open at the hilltop library about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Linbery told the Ventura County Star that no one has been treated for injuries and the hazardous materials team is testing the powder to see what it is.
