Now there's a "must-have" app for traveling stoners.
A new
iPhone app called Potlines alerts traveling pot smokers when they're about to drive into an anti-drug state, providing information about the laws and penalties, if any, for possessing marijuana.
Stoners can set their phones for automatic notification at border crossings or manually select for a particular state.
The Washington Examiner reports journalist David Coia got the idea – loosely based on the community-based traffic and navigation app called Waze – thinking about how marijuana-possession arrests jam up the legal system.
Coia himself, the Examiner reports, hasn't smoked a blunt since 1988.
"When you cross state lines, Potlines tells you what the rules are," Coia told the Examiner. "This helps you be more conscious of your surroundings and speed and warns you to slow down."
He put out the app through his firm, 21st Century AMP, the newspaper reports.
"As many people who've purchased marijuana in Colorado know, unintentionally speeding into a neighboring state like Nebraska and Wyoming can lead to a traffic stop and a possession arrest," Coia told the Examiner.
"Potlines is a must have app for marijuana users who travel," he declared.
