Poll: 80 Percent Say Economy Slumping

With gasoline prices surging and job prospects tenuous at best, it’s not surprising to learn that Americans are worried about the economy. A new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey shows just that, with more than 80 percent believing the economy is in poor shape, CNNMoney.com reports.

That compares to 17 percent who view the economy as somewhat good and 1 percent who view it as very good. The results have stayed about steady since September 2008, when the financial crisis erupted in earnest.

As for the biggest reason behind their concerns, 38 percent cited unemployment as the country’s most important economic issue. Meanwhile, 28 percent listed the budget deficit, 21 percent soaring gas prices, 6 percent housing costs, and 4 percent taxes.
