Donald Trump's inauguration on Friday has sharply increased the stress level among his critics, an ABC News/Washington Post poll reveals.

Here are highlights from the survey:

  • 65 percent of people who wanted Hillary Clinton as president, say Trump's victory has increased stress in their lives.
  • 39 percent of those say their stress has grown "a great deal."
  • 65 percent of Trump supporters said his victory made no difference in their stress levels.
  •
  • 31 percent of those who wanted Trump president said it has made them feel less stressful.

"Stress also is notably high among Hispanics, 54 percent of whom report extra stress from Trump's election, compared with 38 percent of blacks and 29 percent of whites," ABC News reports.

"Regardless, stress itself isn't a blanket negative. While it's linked to health and emotional problems," the U.S. Centers for Disease Control notes, "Sometimes stress can be good. It can help you develop skills needed to manage potentially threatening situations."

This poll was conducted by telephone Jan. 12-15, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 1,005 adults. Results have a margin of sampling error of 3.5 points.
