Piers Morgan: Obama Must Be 'Big Disappointment' to Himself

By    |   Monday, 06 October 2014 04:18 PM

Viewers expecting to see a verbal slugfest when Piers Morgan appeared as a guest on Fox News Channel's "Hannity" Monday night were disappointed. The two found common ground in their disappointment in President Barack Obama.

Morgan, the liberal, pro-gun control former CNN host wrote an opinion piece in the Daily Mail recently that was headlined, "A slapdash Secret Service detail isn't what's wrong with the White House – the real scandal is a President who is so complacent about protecting Americans."

"You saying this seems like a reversal," Hannity told Morgan. "I feel like I understood Barack Obama in 2007 and '08. For you, you are now like waking up, it's like, what is he doing? I felt like that the whole time."

Morgan said that Obama's real issue is what his legacy will be, "and what kind of America does he stand for and represent? And that's where I think he's been a big disappointment. And he must be to himself because what will be his legacy?"

Though Morgan said he has disagreements with Hannity over gun control, the issue is bigger with Obama because he supposedly is on Morgan's side. Obama, Morgan noted, went to Newtown, Connecticut after the Sandy Hook shootings and promised action.

Obama "delivered precisely nothing," Morgan said. "So if you were a believer in Obama's ability to deliver, then that was a pretty crushing disappointment on an issue that was dear to my heart."

Morgan was also critical of Obama's "lead from behind" policy. The Brit said America should not leave its role as the world's policeman.

"America has to be confident, bold and strong and decisive" on everything, from Ebola to terrorism, he said.

Obama saying that the Islamic State (ISIS) has nothing to do with Islam is "all just nonsense, rhetoric," Morgan said.

He said Obama has spent 850 hours playing golf, but only 650 hours attending daily presidential briefings. That upsets Morgan, who is a supporter, so how does it play for ISIS terrorists, he wondered.
