Democrats have a significant leg up on Republicans in terms of support from the millennial generation, according to a new survey.

Key results from the Pew Research Center poll:

  • A combined 59 percent of millennials identify as or lean toward Democrats, while 32 percent said the same about Republicans.
  • 62 percent of millennials said they support or lean toward the Democratic candidate in their local congressional midterm elections, while 29 percent said the same for the Republican candidate.
  • Millennials' interest in this year's midterms is at 62 percent, higher than it was in 2010 (39 percent) and 2014 (46 percent).
  • 65 percent of millennials disapprove of President Donald Trump's job performance, with 27 percent approving. Former President Barack Obama garnered a 64 percent approval rating among millennials after his first year in office.
  • 79 percent of millennials said immigrants strengthen the United States through their hard work and ethics.
  • 29 percent of millennials said it's necessary to believe in God in order to be moral and have good values. Sixty-two percent of the silent generation, 49 percent of baby boomers, and 43 percent of generation X said the same.

Millennials have consistently taken a stance against Trump, but another poll earlier this year suggested there are ways the Republican Party can bring some of them to its side of the aisle.
