Liberal Author Feldt: Libya Won't Boost Obama

By    |   Monday, 22 August 2011 02:05 PM EDT

Gloria Feldt, a feminist author and former chief executive of Planned Parenthood, has one thing in common with conservatives: She doesn’t see the rebels’ military success in Libya generating much political benefit for President Barack Obama.

“As long as unemployment stands at close to double digits and the president refuses to articulate a decisive, compelling vision for turning the economy around and leading past congressional gridlock, what happens in Libya is hardly a blip on most Americans' screen,” Feldt writes on Politico.

“The problem with the ‘leading from behind’ theory — even if it does achieve its goal — is the self-effacing leader can't suddenly run to the front and wave the bloody flag. Net net: advantage Obama, but minimal salience to most voters.”
