Obama Expected to Fill Circuit Court Vacancies

By    |   Monday, 03 June 2013 08:55 PM EDT

President Barack Obama is scheduled to name three nominees to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, considered the second most powerful in the country, on Tuesday morning.

Obama will tap U.S. District Court judge Robert Leon Wilkins, Georgetown Law Professor Cornelia Pillard and attorney Patricia Ann Millett to fill vacancies on the court, reports The Hill.

"At 10:15 in the Rose Garden, the President will announce his intent to nominate three candidates for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit," said a White House official.

"Patricia Ann Millett, who has served in Administrations of both parties; Cornelia Pillard, who served as former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and former Assistant to the Solicitor General; and Judge Robert Wilkins, who was confirmed unanimously for the D.C. District Court in 2010," he added.

The Senate last month unanimously approved the nomination to the court of Sri Srinivasan, who filled a spot opened by Chief Justice John Roberts' appointment to the Supreme Court.

His confirmation came after GOP senators twice filibustered the nomination of New York City lawyer Caitlin Halligan.
