Nurses at a New York City hospital are seen in a photo wearing trash bags as a result of the shortage of safety gear due to the coronavirus crisis.
The New York Post showed a Facebook photo of three nurses at Mount Sinai West in large, black plastic trash bags fashioned into makeshift protective gear.
One is seen holding a box of garbage bags. According to the newspaper, the photo is captioned: “NO MORE GOWNS IN THE WHOLE HOSPITAL.”
A hashtag used in the posting read: #riskingourlivestosaveyours.
A hospital spokesperson told The New York Times she was unaware of that happening and noted the three had other gear underneath the bags.
“The safety of our staff and patients has never been of greater importance and we are taking every precaution possible to protect everyone,” she said.
And a spokesperson told The Hill that the hospital system “always” provides “all our staff with the critical important” personal protective equipment “they need to do their jobs.”
