President Barack Obama seems unable to tap into his humanity when he talks to the American people about the threat of terrorism, and even has behaved as a "jerk" in how he has characterized a frightened public, says Nicolle Wallace.

"He’s a father. I don’t understand why he can’t look into the camera and say, 'If you’ve got kids traveling home for the holidays, I understand you might be afraid to put them on an airplane. You don’t have to be and here’s why,'" Wallace, who served as President George W. Bush's communications director, said Wednesday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"I don’t understand why he can’t tap into his own humanity," she said. "He musters more of it about saving the planet than he does talking about keeping kids safe around this time of year when people are traveling."

People are rightfully afraid, she said, but Obama has been incapable since the November 13 Paris attacks of connecting with them.

He has even reduced the rational fears many have about the refugee program and called them cowards, Wallace said. "He said you're afraid of orphans and women. He has been a jerk."

Mediaite posted video of Wallace's comments.
