Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi ripped former national security adviser John Bolton for not testifying during President Donald Trump’s impeachment hearings.
During a Thursday appearance on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports," Pelosi slammed Bolton for choosing book royalties over patriotism.
Bolton is publishing a tell-all book "The Room Where it Happened" that highlights controversial decisions the president was involved in. The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against Bolton to try to block the book from being published on Tuesday.
“Shame on John Bolton for not coming forth during the impeachment,” Pelosi told host Andrea Mitchell. “He chose royalties in his book, instead of patriotism to our country, knowing how unfit Donald Trump is to be president of the United States.”
Pelosi blasted Bolton for refusing to receive a subpoena from the House of Representatives.
"He said he would only receive it from the Senate," Pelosi said. "Well, he knew the Senate would never issue one."
She said she doesn't know whether Bolton's testimony during Trump's impeachment hearings would have swayed Republican senators.
"I don't know if it would make any difference to the Republican senators," she said. "I don't know if it would have given them any courage or patriotism to vote differently in terms of impeachment or removal from office. But I think his words would have rung stronger if he had backed them up in the forum when it mattered, instead of at the cash register for his royalties."
