9/11 Families Headed to Meeting with Eric Holder

Wednesday, 24 August 2011 09:37 AM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) — Families of 9/11 victims are heading to Washington to meet with Attorney General Eric Holder about allegations surrounding Britain's phone hacking scandal.

According to a London tabloid's story based on unnamed sources, a former New York police officer said he rejected requests by journalists from Rupert Murdoch's News of the World to retrieve private phone records of Sept. 11 victims. The U.S.-based parent company for Murdoch's operations calls the report unsubstantiated.

Attorney Norman Siegel (SEE'-guhl) said Wednesday that 9/11 families want to cooperate with the FBI and Justice Department.

Retired Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches recovered body parts at the World Trade Center and lost his firefighter son. Riches says no one has a right to pry into their personal lives "unless they're invited in."
