Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer indicated Friday that the Trump administration could be holding up shipments of medical equipment to her state as it deals with the coronavirus outbreak.

"What I've gotten back is that vendors with whom we've procured contracts — they're being told not to send stuff to Michigan," Whitmer said during an interview with WWJ radio. "It's really concerning, I reached out to the White House last night and asked for a phone call with the president, ironically at the time this stuff was going on."

During an interview with Fox News Thursday night, President Donald Trump said there's been a "big problem with the young, a woman governor." He was referring to the 48-year-old Whitmer, who earlier in the day asked for a major disaster declaration as her state grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I mean, she's not stepping up. I don't know if she knows what's going on, but all she does is sit there and blame the federal government," Trump added. "She doesn't get it done, and we send her a lot."

After Trump's comments, Whitmer brought the discussion to Twitter.

"Hi, my name is Gretchen Whitmer, and that governor is me," she wrote. "I've asked repeatedly and respectfully for help. We need it. No more political attacks, just PPEs, ventilators, N95 masks, test kits. You said you stand with Michigan — prove it."
