Despite the public impression Stormy Daniels' lawyer Michael Avenatti is on the side of investigations of those in President Donald Trump's orbit, the vocal Trump critic is complicating the Michael Cohen probe and stalling investigators, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Citing people familiar with the situation, the Journal reported Avenatti has "slowed prosecutors' efforts" to discuss the nondisclosure agreement (NDA) with Daniels' former lawyer Keith Davidson, has demanded to review the documents subpoenaed from him, and has not acted on federal prosecutors' requests to waive attorney-client privilege so Davidson can discuss the NDA.

Prosecutors reportedly believe Avenatti is "stringing them along," according to the Journal's sources, a claim Avenatti denied Monday, adding a claim Davidson is "conspiring behind her back with Mr. Cohen," per the report.

"We have already started producing documents to the government, so any suggestion we are not cooperating is meritless," Avenatti told the Journal.
