The Senate voted Thursday to end a tax credit and import tariff for ethanol makers. But it rejected an amendment by Sen.
John McCain, R-Ariz., to end government funding for the installation of ethanol pumps and storage tanks at gas stations by a vote of 59 to 41. And McCain’s not happy about that,
The Hill reports.

“It lost because of the influence of the ethanol lobby,” McCain said on Fox News Thursday. “Ethanol is probably the greatest rip-off that I've seen since P.T. Barnum. It is one of the most outrageous examples of the influence of special interests.”
The lack of support for his amendment violates the wishes of voters who gave Republicans a smashing victory in last year’s congressional elections, he said.
