Anyone in the Florida Keys will be required to wear a face mask to help curb the spread of coronavirus or get hit with a $500 civil fine.
Monroe County Commission has reversed its earlier position and now requires employees and customers to wear masks in any business.
Facial coverings will be required until June 1, 2021, but the commission will reconsider the order every three months.
“Facial coverings over the nose and mouth must be worn in business establishments and other public settings where there is a roof overhead,” said county spokesperson Kristen Livengood in a press release.
The types of coverings allowed include face masks, homemade masks, bandanas or handkerchiefs. Monroe County asks that people save N95 masks for workers on the front lines.
Officers who see anyone violating the restrictions can issue a citation up to $500.
Monroe County has been restricted to outsiders due to the coronavirus pandemic until June 1.
Children ages six and under won't be required to wear masks.
