Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois apologized Monday evening for an off-color comment he made about fellow Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
"I apologize to the people of Illinois for my inappropriate remarks last week," Kirk wrote on
his Facebook page.
Kirk was referencing a comment
in which he described Graham, who has never been married, as a "bro with no ho." The remark came during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing last Thursday when Kirk was overheard on an open mic.
"I've been joking with Lindsey," Kirk said. "He's going to have a rotating first lady. He's a bro with no ho."
During an interview with Yahoo's Katie Couric, Graham downplayed the remarks and said the situation wasn't a big deal to him.
"I think he did the right thing by apologizing. He was trying to be funny, and it didn't work," Graham said.
"He called our office. I said, 'Mark, don't worry about it.' I know Mark, he's good guy."

Graham declared his candidacy for president on June 1, and is now in the very crowded field of contenders vying for the Republican nomination in next year's election.
