Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., told Newsmax TV on Wednesday, "it's time" for businesses in his state to start reopening, noting Tennessee has "done an amazing job" of combating the coronavirus outbreak.
"We have done an amazing job social distancing, flattening the curve, and it's time" to reopen businesses, which began earlier this week, Green told "Newsmax Now."
"If you look at our numbers, we're trailing off; it meets the criteria the president issued, and so it's time to get back to work and we are," he added. "[Wednesday], retail opens, I think restaurants opened on Monday, you got even gyms are allowed to open on Friday. So, we're moving pretty quickly, and I think it's appropriate based on where we are in our curve.”
Gov. Bill Lee said last Friday:
"Tennesseans pulled together to flatten the curve, and it is time for people to begin to get back to work and back to their businesses. We are pursuing a careful, measured approach to reopening our economy that does not depend on heavy-handed mandates, but instead provides practical tools for businesses of all sizes."
