Rubio: Obama Apology to Art History Teacher 'Pathetic'

Sen. Marco Rubio says President Barack Obama's apology to an art history professor for criticizing the value of her discipline was "pathetic."



Obama suggested to workers at a General Electric plant in Wisconsin last month that vocational skills were of more use than a degree in art history. After Ann Collins Johns, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, wrote to him to defend the importance of art history, the president sent her a handwritten apology.

"I was trying to encourage young people who may not be predisposed to a four-year college experience to be open to technical training that can lead them to an honorable career," the president explained.

Rubio's comments have been retweeted dozens of times, though a number of followers criticized the senator. One suggested it was a "cheap shot," while another said he is "desperate for attention."
