Ride-hailing service Lyft has entered the crowded self-driving cars market by securing a permit to test the vehicles in California.
The company opened an autonomous cars division over the summer and, according to Reuters, has now cleared the necessary legal hurdles to conduct testing.
Lyft already has partnerships with autonomous car companies Alphabet (Google's parent company), Ford, and Nutonomy.
Uber secured a permit earlier this year to test self-driving cars, while Apple, Samsung, Tesla, and multiple car makers have a permit as well.
Tesla has developed technology that allows its drivers to put their cars in autopilot mode. The program has enjoyed some success, although a driver was killed last year when his self-driving Tesla turned in front of a tractor-trailer.
It was reported this week, meanwhile, that Volvo will supply Uber with up to 24,000 self-driving cars, in the form of its XC90 SUV, in the coming years.
Information from Reuters was used in this report.
