Southern Baptist Richard Land Apologizes for Trayvon Comments

By    |   Thursday, 10 May 2012 05:41 PM EDT

Southern Baptist leader Richard Land has issued a public apology for his racially charged comments about the Trayvon Martin case, USA Today reports.

Land, who heads the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, had charged Democrats and civil rights leaders with exploiting the killing of the unarmed teen in Sanford, Fla.

Land had already apologized for his comments. In his latest apology, he referred to his “insensitivity” toward Martin’s family, and confessed that he had “impugned the motives” of President Obama and civil rights leaders Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

He added that he had sent them letters seeking their forgiveness.
