Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, explained the reason behind his decision not to wear a mask during his visit to the Mayo Clinic.
She made her comments on Thursday during an interview on “Fox & Friends.”
“As our medical experts have told us, wearing a mask prevents you from spreading disease,” she said. “And knowing he doesn’t have COVID-19, he didn’t wear one."
She added: "It was actually after he left Mayo Clinic that he found out they had a policy of asking everyone to wear a mask. So, someone who’s worked on this whole task force for over two months is not someone who would have done anything to offend anyone or hurt anyone or scare anyone."
Not long after images of the vice president not wearing a mask during his Tuesday visit began appearing online, the Mayo Clinic tweeted a message saying he'd been informed of the mask policy ahead of time.
The clinic has had a policy in place since April 13 regarding face masks.
"Patients and visitors are asked to bring their own face covering or mask to wear," the Mayo Clinic wrote in a statement. "If a patient or visitor does not have a mask, Mayo Clinic will provide one."
