Former White House chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly said one of his most challenging tasks was convincing President Donald Trump not to pull of NATO, according to a new book.
New York Times correspondent and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Schmidt is set to release "Donald Trump v. The United States: Inside the Struggle to Stop a President," on Tuesday.
Axios reports that the book's synopsis describes it as the story of Trump "and the officials of his own government who tried to stop him."
Kelly, a former Marine Corps general who served from July 2017 to January 2019, has said that telling Trump no "was like 'French kissing a chainsaw,'" Schmidt writes.
"Kelly has told others that Trump wanted to behave like an authoritarian and repeatedly had to be restrained and told what he could and could not legally do," the book states, according to Axios.
