Some 200 workers and patients at a children’s hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin are being tested for the coronavirus after a positive test by a doctor there, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.
According to the paper, the doctor from the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, who worked with children with compromised immune systems, got the virus after a recent trip out of state.
None of the patients thought to be at the highest risk of developing serious respiratory illness tested positive, said the paper, quoting Mike Gutzeit, hospital chief medical officer.
But as the paper also reported, the national shortage of tests for the virus is leaving out some at the hospital who were exposed to the doctor, including the father of a teenage girl with leukemia who is being isolated with his daughter.
Andrew Brodzeller, hospital spokesman, said the doctor tested positive on Monday and has since been quarantined at home with mild symptoms. He had worked on the hospital campus without knowing he was infected for roughly a week earlier this month.
According to The Hill, all but about 10 of those undergoing testing are staffers, not patients.
