Conservative commentator and talk show host Glenn Beck has settled a defamation lawsuit brought by a man from Saudi Arabia whom Beck erroneously claimed was involved in the Boston Marathon terrorist bombings, LawNewz.com reported Tuesday.
During a live broadcast on The Blaze, Beck claimed Abdulrahman Alharbi was tied up in the deadly April 15, 2013, bombings carried out by brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev – even though investigators had already said Alharbi wasn't.
Early on in the investigation of the bombings that killed three people – one an 8-year-old boy – when the explosives detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, Alharbi had been a person of interest. But then-Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano later said, "He was not on a watch list . . . he was in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Alharbi charged Beck continued to defame him despite knowing the information.
An order was issued Tuesday dismissing the case. Terms of the settlement haven't been made public, LawNews.com reported.
Beck had been ordered to reveal who gave his network information implicating Alharbi.
