Fox News originally passed on the Hunter Biden story over credibility concerns, reports Mediaite.
The news outlet has verified just one of the emails cited in the explosive New York Post report and some of its anchors and reporters have distanced themselves from the story, though much of the network’s opinion programming has covered the story.
The Post last week alleged emails show Hunter Biden made millions trading on his father’s influence. The outlet said it had obtained emails from a hard drive Rudy Giuliani obtained that purportedly belong to Hunter Biden. Giuliani, a personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, said he was given the hard drive by a Delaware computer repair shop owner.
A source in one of the email threads that show Hunter Biden’s ties to China’s largest private energy company, which included a promise to pay Biden $10 million a year “for introductions alone,” verified the communication to Fox. The person also confirmed “the big guy” mentioned in an email as a person who should receive 10 percent of the proposed business’ equity was Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Fox News and the New York Post are both owned by Rupert Murdoch.
Giuliani said he chose The Post because “either nobody else would take it, or if they took it, they would spend all the time they could to try to contradict it before they put it out.”
The New York Times on Sunday reported that the Post had a difficult time finding a reporter to put their byline on the story over concerns about its sourcing.
