Foot sores could be an indicator of coronavirus, according to doctors in Spain.

The Spanish General Council of Official Podiatrist Colleges in a statement Tuesday warned that some COVID-19 patients have experienced lesions on their feet, “similar to those of chickenpox or measles” and said “numerous cases” were found in Italy, France and Spain.

The symptom has been detected “especially” in children and teens, though some adults have presented with the sores.

“They are purple lesions (very similar to those of chickenpox, measles or chilblains) which usually appear on the toes and normally heal without leaving a mark," the statement reads.

“The Podologists Council urges its colleges and its members to remain alert because this can be a sign of detection of COVID-19 to avoid infection.”

The group was investigating the findings.

The International Federation of Podologists said a 13-year-old boy who complained last month of foot sores was found to have coronavirus.

The virus, which is reported to have originated in Wuhan, China, has infected nearly 2 million people worldwide and killed more than 126,000.
