The Government Accountability Office (GAO), Congress’ investigative arm, is finding it difficult to get some information out of the FBI. Gene Dodaro, the GAO’s acting comptroller general, has sought information on the personnel vacancy rate in the FBI’s counterterrorism unit for nearly a year, The Hill reports. Requesting the information are Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

FBI, GAO, Grassley, Leahy, personnelDodaro took the unusual step last month of meeting with FBI Director Robert Mueller. But Mueller maintains that the information the GAO wants comes under intelligence oversight and can be made available only to the House and Senate intelligence committees.

"We are still treating this as an open engagement and hope that we can get the access we need to complete our work,” The Hill quotes Dodaro as saying.
