Former assistant attorney general Alice Fisher has withdrawn her name from the list of potential people to lead the FBI.

Fox News reporter Brooke Singman first posted the news on her Twitter account:

Fisher worked in the Justice Department from 2005-'08 during the presidency of George W. Bush.

The search for an FBI director is ongoing after President Donald Trump fired James Comey last week. The president was scheduled to interview four candidates for the job Wednesday, including former Sen. Joe Lieberman.

According to The National Law Journal, Fisher met with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about the FBI post over the weekend.

The Journal included a statement from someone close to Fisher, who said: "Alice is honored and humbled to have been considered. While she had productive discussions with those working on the nomination, she determined she would not proceed.

"She has tremendous respect for the Justice Department and deeply values the hard work the men and women at the bureau and throughout the department do every day to protect the American public. She will do all she can to help support the president's nominee as they take on this incredibly important national security and public safety role."
