Ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration, Delta Air Lines has announced it will not allow passengers to check firearms with their stored baggage on flights to Washington, D.C.

Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian said the policy would extend through next week. He made the announcement on CNBC’s “Squawk Box. on Thursday. The show posted a video excerpt of his interview on its Twitter account.

"One thing we're going to do is we're going to not allow anyone to check a firearm into any of the metro D.C. airports starting this weekend and carrying it through this next week ... unless you are law enforcement and you are authorized to be carrying one," Bastian said.

‘We’re all on high alert based on the events over the last couple weeks up in Washington."

Meanwhile, Reuters reported the airline has put 880 people on its no-fly list for not complying with its mask requirements and has banned others from flying for harassing other passengers or unruly behavior related to the U.S. election results.

Last week Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, was heckled by supporters of President Donald Trump on a Delta flight from Salt Lake City to Washington D.C.
