A shocking new report warns 2.2 million Americans and 510,000 Britons could die from coronavirus unless drastic action is taken, Axios reported Tuesday.
The report, from Imperial College London, contends the effectiveness is limited of the current policy of "mitigation" (isolating only the sick and those linked to them while stressing social distancing for those who at-risk) and instead suggests the much more drastic measure of "suppression," which "will minimally require a combination of social distancing of the entire population, home isolation of cases and household quarantine of their family members."
The reports stresses this is "the only viable strategy at the current time," even though its stringent measures would have to be maintained until a vaccine is developed, which experts say could take as long as a year and a half.
The stunning warnings contained in the study reportedly helped convince both President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson to take the coronavirus threat much more seriously and stress to their publics the importance of taking all necessary measures in order to contain the virus.
