A bill Democrats have termed "For the People Act" includes at least one provision that seems to lay the groundwork for voter fraud, according to Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., on Newsmax TV.
Speaking on "The Chris Salcedo Show" on Tuesday, Issa said the bill reminds him of his home state's voting laws regarding absentee ballots.
"It institutionalizes California's standard or lack thereof," Issa told host Chris Salcedo. "In California, you can register without any I.D., vote absentee without any I.D. The only thing that has to happen in California, in theory, is that the signature on your application should match the signature on your ballot."
Bill H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2021, is sponsored by Rep. John Sarbanes, D-Md. Perhaps not surprisingly, the legislation is co-sponsored by two Californians, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif.
The bill's mission is, "To expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes."
Issa explained how the aforementioned provision regarding absentee ballots — that the application and ballot signatures must match — could lead to vast voting fraud.
"Now, it doesn't have to be your name, you can make up different names: As long as you remember how to sign each ballot, you can vote a hundred times," Issa said. "California is, by definition, able to have unlimited fraud and, clearly, we are the state with the most non-citizens registered to vote, by far.
"Probably well north of a million people are registered to vote in this state who are not citizens."
