The number of sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt has reached nine and the total number who have tested positive for coronavirus has topped 700, Stars and Stripes reported Tuesday.
In total, 94% of the crew of 4,800 have been tested for the virus with a total 710 testing positive., according to Stars and Stripes. Forty-two have recovered, and approximately 3,872 have tested negative.One crewmember, Chief Petty Officer Charles Robert Thacker Jr., 41, died of the virus on April 13.
The ship has been docked in Guam since March 27 after the outbreak occurred, and 4,158 sailors have been transferred off the ship.
The carrier's former commander, Capt. Brett Crozier, was fired after raising alarms in an email that was leaked to the media. Crozier himself has also contracted coronavirus. His case is currently under review.
The Navy currently has a total of 1,252 coronavirus cases, Stars and Stripes reported.
