A Milwaukee landlord has cut the April rent for his two tenants to $100 in an attempt to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis, Fox News reported.
John Zutz, who owns a three-family home, told WISN TV that he hopes other landlords with the means will make a similar gesture, which is saving his tenants $1,000.
“I realize there's going to be a lot of people out of work, and they need help," he said to the station, adding that he told his tenants that “if they don't need [the aid], to spend the money in the neighborhood."
One of his tenants, Cai Logan, said he does need the discount, because his income has been cut in half due to the crisis.
“This is affecting everyone, and this is affecting me financially," Logan said. "I felt relieved, and I also felt grateful on a community level because [his] intention was to free up some money to invest back in the neighborhood during a time of economic downturn."
Zutz emphasized that he has hope regarding the pandemic, saying “This'll pass, but we gotta work together."
